About

Hello, I’m Steve,
originally from the Pacific Northwest, my heart was stolen by the stunning autumns and inland seas of the Midwest I’m now settled in the tree shaded west side of Ann Arbor, where I share my passion for wheel throwing as a pottery instructor, guiding others through the challenging and rewarding process of working in clay.

In my own work, I thrive on the unpredictable beauty of atmospheric firings, specifically Raku. By inviting fire and atmosphere to be active contributors, I try to catch the dance of the flames and pull smoke directly into the glazes and clay surface for colors only found in the unpredictable.

Raku is a cathartic surrender for me. The violent temperature changes leave no room for expectations, often devouring weeks of effort in a brief momment leaving me with nothing but broken shards. I have to accept that inherent failure. Yet, within those rare successes, where a well crafted piece, a perfectly timed process, and pure luck converge, I am left in awe of the impossibly beautiful textures and colors that make the heartbreak worth it. I keep chasing that feeling, and pushing my skills in the process hoping to leave a few pieces of such enduring beauty in the world.

Thanks for stopping by to say hi,
Steve Warrington Jr

Hey there, thanks for visiting my site. The shop is currently sold out, but I am busy working away on more beautiful things to share. My atmospheric firings are wild and unpredictable, so restocks are infrequent—but always worth the wait. In the meantime, feel free to enjoy the gallery above of my work, read more about me and my processes on my about page, and be sure to join the mailing list below so you can get first dibs on the pieces that survive the next kiln firing!

Oh, and you can head over to my Instagram to check out some of the projects I'm currently working on.

My shop updates are currently pretty infrequent, but if you’d like to know when I have work to sell that didn't blow up in the kiln, please sign up for my newsletter. (And I promise I don't have the time to spam you!)
